Never Too Late!
Reinvent Yourself, Raise Your Game, and Redefine What's Possible
A practical framework for anyone in midlife or beyond who senses they’ve got more to give, whether life has knocked you sideways or you’re quietly wondering “is this it?”
Foreword by Aaron Phipps MBE, Paralympic gold medallist
Are you where you want to be?
Perhaps life looks fine from the outside, yet something inside you is uneasy. You have achieved things, handled responsibilities, built a career, supported other people, but you sense you’ve got something more to give.
Or perhaps the question has arrived more brutally. Redundancy. Illness. Injury. Divorce. Bereavement. Burnout. Caring responsibilities. Retirement. A role disappearing. A confidence knock. A sense that the world has moved on and you’re not sure where you fit anymore.
If any of that resonates, this book is for you.
You don’t need a perfectly formed dream or a five-year plan. A vague unease is enough to start with. What you need is a process, and that’s what Never Too Late! gives you.
It's never too late, but "never too late" doesn't mean magic
Hilary is refreshingly honest about this. “Never too late” doesn’t mean you can do absolutely anything at any age with no constraints. Your body, your finances, your responsibilities, your health and your timing all matter.
- A skill you can build
- A choice you can create
- A direction you can explore
- A contribution you can make
- A next step you can take
Never Too Late! is the book Hilary wishes she’d had at every one of her own turning points, from being fired out of a “dream” Managing Director role, to rebuilding after a career-threatening Achilles injury at 55, to standing on the podium as a European Age Group Triathlon Champion in her sixties.
The MAP Framework: a practical loop, not a rigid plan
Over decades of professional crises, career reinventions, injury recovery, sport, speaking and working with businesses, Hilary noticed a repeatable pattern behind every meaningful change she made. She calls it MAP.
Motivation
Why does this matter enough to begin and keep going?
Action
What is the next practical thing you can do?
Progress
What happened, what did you learn, and what needs to change?
And crucially, MAP isn’t a one-off plan. It’s a loop. You go round it again and again, learning as you go, tuning it to your strengths, applying it to bigger and bigger challenges.
Once you understand your own version of the process, you can apply it to almost anything.
Written for people who aren't starting from scratch
Whether you’re navigating a crisis, drifting through a “slow burn,” entering a new life stage or eyeing an opportunity, Never Too Late! meets you where you are.
- Facing redundancy, a career crisis or a role that's quietly disappearing
- Approaching or navigating retirement and refusing to fade into the background

- Juggling caring responsibilities alongside your own ambitions
- Feeling stuck in a rut, comfortable, but not really living
- Successful on the outside, but privately wondering "is this it?"
- Sitting on an idea, an ambition or a "someday" project you keep postponing

Book Hilary alongside the book
The MAP framework doesn’t just live on the page. Hilary regularly brings it into organisations through keynotes, interactive workshops and webinars, most often around three signature topics:
Overcoming Overwhelm
Help your managers and leaders cut through the noise, establish clear priorities and reduce the health toll of always-on pressure.
Focus for Results
Hilary’s game-changing talk sharing her 5-step G2R (Goals to Results) process, drawn from the same thinking as the book.
Survive and Thrive
For teams navigating tough conditions: three top actions to take, three not to, and how to use hard times to hone the business skills that pay off later.
Bulk book orders: Never Too Late! pairs naturally with a keynote or workshop. Ask us about bulk pricing for conferences, leadership offsites, team development programmes and reader gifts.
A note from Hilary
I wrote Never Too Late! because I kept meeting people, brilliant, capable people, who had convinced themselves it was too late. Too late to change career. Too late to get fit. Too late to try the thing they’d been quietly thinking about for years.
It isn’t.
What I’ve learnt, through every reinvention I’ve been through, is that change isn’t magic. It’s a process. Once you understand your own version of that process, you can apply it to almost anything.
This book is my attempt to hand you that process, clearly, honestly, and without pretending it will be easy. Start where you are. Use what you have. Focus on what you can do. And if the next step feels overwhelming, put a timer on for five minutes and begin.
I wish you every success on your own journey.
Frequently asked questions
When is Never Too Late! being released?
The official launch date is being confirmed. Check back soon, or follow Hilary on LinkedIn for updates.
Where will I be able to buy it?
Never Too Late! will be available worldwide in hardcover, paperback and Kindle formats via Amazon.
Is this book only for people in midlife?
The book is written with people in midlife and beyond most directly in mind, but the MAP framework applies at any stage. If you’re navigating change, building something new, or trying to raise your game, you’ll find it useful.
Is it a business book or a personal-development book?
Both. Hilary draws on decades of engineering, leadership and consulting experience alongside her personal reinvention stories. The MAP framework works just as well on a business turnaround as it does on a fitness goal, a career change or a creative project.
Do I need to read it in order?
The first half helps you clarify your situation, what you’re bringing, and what to focus on. The second half takes you through MAP itself. You’ll get the most out of it by reading in order the first time, but many readers return to specific chapters and exercises as new challenges come up.
Can I buy copies in bulk for my team or event?
Yes. Please get in touch to discuss bulk pricing, and to ask about pairing the book with a keynote or workshop from Hilary.
Will there be a workbook or companion resources?
The book includes exercises, self-assessments and a full 90-Day MAP Plan template throughout. Downloadable PDF and Word versions of the key assessments will be available to readers.
